Images for Orphans

Grant Faint is a Canadian photographer and filmmaker who started his professional life in a TV newsroom in 1973. He has now traveled to over 90 countries shooting images for Gettyimages. In 2004 to celebrate his 50th birthday he shot and produced a retrospective DVD/film showing him working around the globe which also highlighted 450 of his best images. The film SOGNARE, which is Italian meaning TO DREAM became a fund raising tool, shown in five cities around the world.

All the money went to fund PLAN CANADA’s program helping orphans in Tanzania who have lost parents due to HIV/AIDS.

Now a second film is nearing completion. ANAONA Swahili meaning TO BELIEVE is a film that depicts the beauty and wisdom of nine African countries. Having made six trips to Africa to do the filming over the past 3 years Faint captured scenes from Niger to South Africa. The other countries that are included in this DVD are Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, and Botswana.

“Filming the beauty of the African landscape, animals and it’s wonderful people has been a gift, now I can give back”

Faint’s website is a portal to donate and in return receive a selected 17x22 print for helping the orphans.

The name IMAGES FOR ORPHANS underlines the simple connection between his work and the need overseas.

As well. in 2005 Grant worked with ex-patriots from the worn torn country of Sierra Leone in West Africa to build a school for 500 refugee children.

Faint has already begun yet another film for orphans in Tanzania, this time ITALY. Filming began in summer of 2008 and will take another two years.

35 years of traveling around the world, have a look.
